Three Belfast restaurants have been named in a list of the best 1,000 restaurants in the world.

Recently Michelin-starred restaurants EIPIC and Ox are listed, along with James Street South. The Boat House in Bangor also made the cut.

La Liste contains eateries from 48 countries and was compiled by looking at data from over 200 dining guides, review sites, gourmet blogs, social media, and major national and local publications. Organisers say that the aim of the list is not necessarily to pass judgement on the quality of restaurants, but to “compile the reviews from all existing guidebooks and online comments in order to provide a list of 1,000 exceptional restaurants around the world.”

Gerry Lennon, Chief Executive of Visit Belfast said “We at Visit Belfast would like to extend our warmest congratulations to EIPIC, Ox, James Street South and the Boat House on this achievement.

“With just 46 restaurants from the UK and seven from the Republic of Ireland named on La Liste, Belfast is really punching above its weight to have three restaurants listed. The city has an extremely vibrant and exciting food culture, and with next year designated the Year of Food and Drink in Northern Ireland, there has never been a better time to get out and tasting what’s on offer.”
