Visit Belfast Chief Executive Gerry Lennon has today (Tuesday 24 October) welcomed the news that Belfast and the Causeway Coastal Route have been ranked number one on Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions to visit as part of its Best in Travel feature for 2018.
“It’s no secret that Belfast and Northern Ireland’s reputation as a destination of choice has seen significant growth in recent years, and it is great to see that acknowledged by Lonely Planet, who have ranked Belfast and the Causeway Coastal Route as the number one region to visit it 2018.
“Lonely Planet describes the city as ‘vibrant’ with ‘its eyes firmly fixed on the future’, which is clearly evidenced by our world-class tourist attractions, a growing portfolio of hotels, fantastic food and drink, and a welcome like no other which attract millions of visitors each year.
“Belfast is a great destination in its own right, but also plays an important role as the gateway to the rest of Northern Ireland for visitors arriving through the city’s ports and airports, ready to explore Belfast and the rest of Northern Ireland.
“This accolade from Lonely Planet will help to further increase Belfast and Northern Ireland’s appeal to out-of-state visitors who look to credible publications like Lonely Planet for guidance and inspiration for their next trip, so we are thrilled that Belfast and the Causeway Coastal Route have been included on the list and will continue to work with our partners to bring the world to Belfast.”
