This Saturday (3rd November) the Red Bull Racing team is bringing a stellar line up and its own brand of racing magic to Belfast’s City Centre. Starting at 8.00pm with three performances taking place every half hour, spectators will be able to witness an amazing show as the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car performs a full repertoire of donuts, burnouts and speed stretches in front of Belfast’s iconic City Hall.

Public viewing for the showrun performances will take place during three separate 30-minute slots; 8.00pm, 8.30pm and 9.00pm, to accommodate the thousands of spectators expected at this FREE family event.  In addition, the Red Bull F1 Racing car and its accompanying garage will be on display for the public in front of City Hall from 12.00 to 5.00pm

Scottish motorsports legend (13 Grand Prix wins), David Coulthard will be joined at the Red Bull F1 Showrun by local motorcycle veterans, Jeremy McWilliams & Ryan Farquhar, stunt bike rider, Mattie Griffin from Galway and Drift Champion and Red Bull athlete, Conor Shanahan from Cork.  All of drivers will be demonstrating their two-wheel and four-wheel track prowess along Donegall Square North/East during the 30-minute show performance.

Big screens and an accessible viewing area will allow everyone to get as close to the action as possible.  Chichester Street, which runs in front of City Hall, will be closed to traffic from 6pm onwards and the site will be open to the public from 7.30pm.  Please check RedBull.ie/F1Belfast for all event details including road closures, transport, viewing areas, etc.

David Coulthard will be driving the RB8 F1 car. It is a composite monocoque structure, designed and built in-house with a Renault V8 engine and the double title winning 2012 vehicle.  It also won the Constructors World Championship that year and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.4 seconds reaching speeds of more than 250km/h on an open track so I can’t wait to put it through its paces

Red Bull F1 Showrun events have visited the four corners of the world, including locations that would not normally host a F1 event and in many cases giving people their first taste of Formula 1 up close. As for the bike stunts, you can you can expect anything and everything from no-handed wheelies, to sitting on the bike backwards, to burnouts and donuts

Conor Shanahan. Cork, Ireland

The 15-year-old Cork-native is set to take the Irish and British Drift Championship by storm over the next year. After running his first full season at Pro level in both series and his newly refreshed Nissan 180sx is no stranger to battle, even seeing plenty of silverware and podium glory in its time. Including beating James Deane at Round 1 of this year’s European Drift Championship in Poland.

The 2017 Pro-Am champion has of course already proved himself amongst the big boys, after finishing 14th in the IDC’s Pro class in 2017 (despite not having a Pro licence) and taking home 3rd place overall in the 2017 British Drift Championship Pro class, only 5 points behind older brother Jack. 2018 however will see Conor faced with his biggest challenge to date behind the wheel of the180sx.

Jeremy McWilliams and Ryan Farquhar Belfast & Dungannon, NI

Two household names for Irish motorsports fans, Jeremy McWilliams and Ryan Farquhar, will also be putting on a performance together. Ryan told us, “I have done things in towns before but never in the likes of Belfast City Centre, and never with a formula one car either!”

Jeremy, from Belfast, is the only Irish racer to make it to MotoGP level, and now tests for the MotoGP KTM team, whilst Ryan, from Dungannon, is the all-time Irish road racing winner.

To make it extra special, Jeremy will be riding one of Ryan’s KMR Kawasaki Supertwin bikes as well. “As far as motorcycles go it’s probably the next loudest bike to a MotoGP bike. Whenever you hear a formula one car, it’s all part of it, and they’ll get the same feeling from this bike,” Ryan tells us. “The sound coming off the buildings will be amazing. I’ve been hearing it [the engine] for a few years now but to hear it going off large buildings [like in Belfast city Centre], it’ll multiply.”

Jeremy is equally excited, adding, “They’re absolutely the best thing you’ve ever heard. It’ll set the city alight! They’re pure adrenaline, they’re something special. I think that’s what’ll make the event so special as well. The sound of the 650b turbo twin exhaust will sound great bouncing off the city walls.”

Mattie Griffin, Galway, Ireland

Ranked fifth in the world at Street Bike Freestyle Riding in 2008 and 2009, Mattie’s presence at events such as the Annual BMW Motorrad Days Garmisch Partenkirchen, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Motorcycle Live Show at the NEC Birmingham and countless Motoring events throughout the World have been warmly welcomed by his growing fan base.

The 37-year-old from Galway (Ireland) works hard to entertain his audiences, training for two hours a day on his BMW F 800 R’s & BMW G 310 R developing new moves and keeping up to scratch with his signature tricks. It’s a dream job for Mattie, whose motorcycling career began at an early age – thanks to an enthusiasm for trials riding and talent for mechanics.
