This weekend (Friday 12 and Saturday 13 February) will see FUTURE2016 – a hackathon and tech conference for teenagers – held in Belfast at T13.
Organised by teenagers, for teenagers, attendees of the event will be organised into teams of five and have two days to rapidly conceive, prototype and pitch an app or website around the theme of education.
14-year old organiser and Belfast native Adam Flanagan said “We are planning this event simply because we feel there is an evident lack of events like this that are aimed at teenagers, who, after all, are the Future!
“The format of the event is simple: a two-day education hackathon and tech conference complete with talks and panels from some of the most inspirational speakers in the tech industry. At the end of the event, prizes will be awarded based on the innovation, design and code efficiency of each solution. We believe that the tech conference/hackathon model is ideal for teenagers as not only are they gaining practical experience through ‘hacking’ together a solution, but they’re also being inspired by the current tech leaders.”
Speakers at the event include Anne-Marie Tomchak, a reporter for BBC Trending, George Berkowski, author of the best-selling “How to build a billion dollar app” and Joe Comiskey, head of Ecommerce Innovation at Unilever. Tickets are available by clicking here.
The event is being supported by several sponsors, including Visit Belfast, Google, Unilever and FlyBe.
