This Easter, W5 invites families to buckle up for an unforgettable adventure. Open daily until Sunday 27 April 2025, Northern Ireland’s award-winning science and discovery centre is bursting with hands-on experiences and activities designed to spark curiosity and excitement for visitors of all ages. From high-octane LEGO® F1® races to inspiring live science shows, W5 promises a fun-filled day out for the whole family.
Race for Glory in the LEGO® F1® Big Build Challenge
Visitors big and small can test their creativity and engineering skills in the LEGO® F1® Big Build Challenge. With a vast selection of LEGO® bricks, wheels, and parts to choose from, participants can build the ultimate racing machine – whether it’s built for speed, power, or pure flair. Once their custom creation is complete, it’s time to take to the track! Cars will race head-to-head, with the fastest three vehicles each week winning a LEGO® F1® Speed Champions set.
Live Science Shows at the Science Bar
The Science Bar will host a range of live science shows guaranteed to amaze. Families can enjoy Bubble-ology, a spectacular exploration of the science of bubbles, or delve into the wonders of the universe in Our World From Space, an engaging show highlighting the importance of space science in everyday life. Meanwhile, Flutter-by offers the chance to witness the magical transformation of caterpillars into butterflies, accompanied by hands-on arts and crafts.
Brave the Wild with Extreme Existence
This is one live show visitors won’t want to miss. Extreme Existence is an exciting interactive show where the audience chooses which animals to learn about. From how polar bears survive in freezing regions to camels in scorching deserts, the show explores how animals survive and adapt to the planet’s most extreme environments. With live demonstrations, plenty of laughs, and opportunities for audience participation, it’s a must-see event for budding biologists and animal lovers alike.
Explore Eight Zones and Over 250 Interactive Exhibits
Beyond the seasonal events, W5 offers eight themed zones packed with over 250 interactive exhibits. Visitors can scale the multi-storey Climbit structure, step into a virtual ocean, power a city with renewable energy, or challenge friends on the Pulley Chairs. Younger guests will be enchanted by Over the Hills & Far Away, a fairy tale-inspired zone, while aspiring scientists can get hands-on in Med-Lab, where they can explore the human body and test their surgical skills in a giant game of Operation, plus so much more.
Whether visitors are problem-solvers, thrill-seekers, or future scientists, W5 offers an action-packed Easter experience that the whole family will enjoy.
The LEGO® F1® Big Build Challenge and Science Bar activities will run daily until Sunday 27 April and are included with general admission to W5. However, capacity is limited, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Pre-booking is essential to guarantee entry.
