A New Candle Fragrance Inspired by the City’s Literary Landmarks.

Belfast, December 2025 — Belfast Times is delighted to announce the launch of its newest candle fragrance, Libraries of Belfast, a scent crafted as a tribute to two of the city’s most cherished cultural institutions: the Linenhall Library and Belfast Central Library.

In 1888, as the Linenhall Library celebrated its centenary, Belfast Central Library opened its doors on Royal Avenue. For more than a century, these neighbouring libraries have quietly observed the unfolding story of Belfast. Their shelves hold much more than books—they carry the city’s work, its struggles, its creativity, and its enduring spirit.

Stepping inside either library, visitors encounter the unmistakeable aroma of old books, polished wood, and timeworn pages. It’s a scent that instantly grounds you, connecting past and present in one breath. The Linenhall Library, in particular, remains a sanctuary of calm away from the pulse of the city. Sunlight filters through its tall windows, creating a warm stillness that invites reflection. One favourite spot, by the window overlooking City Hall, reminds visitors how seamlessly Belfast’s history intertwines with its everyday life.

A Fragrance Shaped by Story

Libraries of Belfast encapsulates this unique atmosphere through a carefully balanced blend of fresh linen and warm leather notes.

  • Linen brings a clean, light freshness; like crisp fabric drying in cool air, with soft hints of soap and quiet comfort.
  • Leather adds warmth and character, offering smooth, smoky, and subtly woody tones that evoke the richness of old bindings and well-loved reading rooms.

Together, these elements create a fragrance that is both calming and grounding, modern yet steeped in heritage. It’s the scent of stepping into a sunlit library alcove, of turning the first page of a well-worn book, of reconnecting with Belfast’s layered story.
