George Best Belfast City Airport has won the Career Inspiration Award at the 2018 Irish News Workplace & Employment Awards.
The Career Inspiration accolade is awarded to the business deemed to have made the biggest impact to young people achieving the initial step towards their career ambition, through strong initiatives between business and educational organisations.
Stephen Patton, Corporate Responsibility and HR Manager at George Best Belfast City Airport, attended the awards on the night and said:
“We feel very honoured to have been recognised as the Career Inspiration winners at the Irish News Workplace & Employment Awards.
“Our commitment to Corporate Responsibility has allowed us to reach over 2200 pupils across 61 different schools. Through programs including our High Flyers Apprenticeship Scheme, for which we have a 100% employment success rate, and the Creative Leadership Scheme in partnership with Cinemagic, we have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact that the airport has on our local community.
“All of our employees are encouraged to volunteer, whether it be through Time to Read, the STEM register or one of our other educational partnerships. Corporate Responsibility is central to our business and we dedicate approximately 2600 hours a year to various local causes.
“A key strand of our Corporate Responsibility programme is our Community Fund.
“Delivering over £350,000 to 150 local projects since it’s inception in 2009, the Community Fund uses fines for out of hours operation at the airport to provide funding to a range of groups in the Greater Belfast and North Down area.”
The judges noted that Belfast City Airport is motivating young people to fulfill their career ambitions and encouraging a successful transition into the working world.
The Career Inspiration award is the latest accolade for Belfast City Airport, who was presented with GOLD Level status at Business in the Community’s CORE Awards 2018 and Business of the Year at the Allianz Arts and Business NI Awards 2018.
