Ards Arts Centre in Newtownards is pleased to welcome two new art exhibitions to its Georgian and Sunburst Galleries: 404 [Not Found] a solo exhibition by Jonathan Conlon and 1:12 Scale, a solo exhibition of work by Betty Brown MA PPRUA.

In 404 [Not Found], Belfast based artist Jonathan Conlon will present a series of large-scale figurative/portrait works in oils. Drawing on digitally mediated existences, Conlon engages both familiar and unfamiliar subjects to challenge perceptions about how we view one another.

Using digital collage and distorted camera film, Conlon will compose and obstruct the viewer’s gaze. The enhanced scale and muted palette further distance the subject from their observer. Audiences will be invited to reflect on their own experiences of knowing and belonging, both online and offline.

Jonathan Conlon, BA Fine Art Ulster University Belfast, is a current studio member of Queen Street Studios.

1:12 Scale is a new exhibition by Betty Brown MA PPRUA that takes inspiration from the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig. Featuring a 1:12 scale doll house replica of the ‘Big House’ in Betty’s inimitable style, the exhibition will also show paintings and new works inspired by the model.

Betty Brown, MA, is a renowned visual artist practicing for over forty-five years. Betty was elected President of the Royal Ulster Academy in 2018 and completed a three-year term of office in June 2021.

Both exhibitions will open on Thursday 24 April and continue until Saturday 17 May. Admission is free.

All are welcome to attend a Preview Event in Ards Arts Centre on Thursday 24 April at 7pm.
