A new, digital tourism information touchscreen has been installed at Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, right in the heart of the Gaeltacht Quarter, thanks to support from Belfast City Council’s City Connections Programme, Visit Belfast and Fáilte Feirste Thiar.
The hi-tech digital touchscreen, which is the 10th to be rolled out by Visit Belfast, contains instant access and information to more than 800 tourism products, including visitor attractions, accommodation, and tours.
Unveiling the new touchscreen, Councillor Mairead O’Donnell, chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth and Regeneration Committee, and member of the East/West Belfast Tourism Development Steering Group, said:
“The purpose of this project is to empower local communities in the development of tourism across and throughout the city, specifically helping to strategically develop unique visitor focussed tourism products and experience in both the West and East of the City.
“I’m delighted that this new interactive tourism touchscreen is now available in An Chultúrlann, right in the heart of West Belfast, adding to the touchscreen installed within the Eastside Visitor Centre last year.”
Visit Belfast Chair, Howard Hastings, added:
“This dynamic new digital tourism resource will deliver real benefits for locals and visitors alike, bringing them instantly up to speed with what’s happening and what’s on across the city and further afield.
“I’m delighted that this new digital asset is here in An Chultúrlann, one of West Belfast’s most exciting cultural attractions, and that this initiative ensures that the economic impact of tourism in Belfast is maximised at a local level right across the city.”
Since Visit Belfast’s flagship Welcome Centre in Donegall Square was opened in 2013, it has been rolling out a city-wide visitor servicing strategy that has delivered digitally-enhanced visitor information at key entry points including Belfast’s two airports, Central Station, Great Victoria Bus Station and at Titanic Belfast, enabling travellers to access detailed information on hundreds of tourism products and onward travel options as soon as they arrive.
This project has been developed as part of the ongoing work of the East/West Belfast Local Tourism Development Steering Group which is made up of Eastside Tourism incorporating EastSide Visitor Centre, EastSide Arts, Fáilte Feirste Thiar, Féile an Phobail and An Chultúrlann.
Harry Connolly, Executive Director at Fáilte Feirste Thiar, said:
“We are delighted to work in partnership Belfast City Council, Visit Belfast and Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich. The Gaeltacht Quarter is an established and fast-growing destination for international visitors and I’m confident that this investment will further help our local businesses, community groups and cultural attractions to become even more visible in the months and years ahead.”
